NL East

Congratulations to the Phillies for clinching the NL East Division Championships!

When they showed the stats tonight, revealing the Phillies track record, it showed that the last time they won the World Series was in 1980.   TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS!

My first thought was, “God help me, I’m old!”  Although I clearly remember partying on Broad Street, I was in grade school for heaven’s sake.

But then my second thought was, “We’re due then.”

C’mon guys! You can do it!

Off By A Hair

So says coach Andy Reid about the Eagles team.  “Off by a hair.”  I hope that’s all it is because that might actually be something correctable.

I haven’t lost my faith yet, but in all honesty I didn’t go into this season with my usual feelings of “we can do it” or “this year for sure”.  There has only been one year where I watched Eagles game after Eagles game without my heart lodged in my throat.  That was the year they made it to the playoffs but lost to Tampa Bay.  Do you remember that year?

That was a good year.

I will never forget that year.

They were awesome that year.

I have yet to feel that way ever since.  Not even the year they made it to the Superbowl.  Heart in throat, the entire time.

I have a feeling I will be choking a lot this year, just like the Eagles.  But I haven’t lost all faith in them just yet.  When I watch an Eagles game without any worries, then you know it means I have lost my faith.

Or they are back to the amazing team they were that year….

The 80’s Are Coming Back

Ah, the 80’s!  Who would have thought the era of my formative years would one day be considered “retro”?

But here it is.  The wide belts are back in style.  The long shirts and skinny jeans are back in style.  The pointy stilettos are back in style.

And maybe, just maybe winning sport teams might be coming back in style.

Four game sweep! Just two games behind in the National League East standings.  Somebody pinch me!

OK, I may be getting ahead of myself.  But, with skinny jeans popping up everywhere, nothing (and I mean nothing) will surprise me now.

Sid & Nancy Work It Out

I don’t know about you, but even now at my ripe old age I still find the time to mash in my living room to the Sex Pistols or the Bad Brains.  I just can’t shake my youthful punk rock days, despite being “all grown up”.

Good music is just good music.

It gets you up and going, makes you want to jump around like an idiot.  That is why I think the Punk Rock Boot Camp makes perfect sense to me.  Working out to punk rock music is just the kind of inspiration I would need to push myself.  Then afterwards I would get to say something really cheesy like, “that was a real hardcore workout!”

Workout drills are weekdays @ 6:30 though.  UGH! I could never ever in a million years manage that.  So it’s a good thing they also have weekend drop in classes for just 5 bucks that start at 10:00 in the morning. Now that I can consider.  Consider, mind you.

Frankly, I am totally tempted to go just for the music.  I bet I’d get to hear a lot of the old stuff I never got around to replacing on CD’s.  It would be a nice walk run down memory lane!

Check out their website for more details, schedules and fees.

{Thanks again to Daily Candy for the great tip!)

Raven Mad Here

So much for green, color me blue.

What a mess. Hopefully, the pathetically sad game the Eagles played last night will fulfill its intentions.  It was, after all, just a practice game.  As in find your (many) mistakes, weaknesses, etc. and work them out before the real stuff starts happening.

I am not happy, people.

Training Days

Well, according to everything I am hearing and reading, it sounds like McNabb is in top shape and ready to give it his all this year.

Ok, call me a doubting Thomas, but I find it hard to believe that this year will be any different or better.  Now, trust me when I say that I am one of those Eagles fans that dons their rose colored glasses every August and chants to themselves, “this year…this year…this year”.

I use to feel the same way every time I pulled the handle on a slot machine, “this time…this time…this time.” Well, after years of having my  twenty dollor bills getting sucked up without ever hearing those tell tale bells go off telling me my daughter has just become an heiress, let’s just say you finally start to lose some of that optimism.

McNabb’s knee surgery is over.  He is all set to kick some butt.  But it is not like we have become sudden amnesiacs.  Four years ago he was healthier and younger and hungrier.  I find it hard to believe his stamina, optimism and game is just as high now as it was back then.  And sadly, it wasn’t enough back then.

That being said, of course it still won’t stop me from putting on my rose colored glasses again come the end of this month.  In all honesty, I wouldn’t know any other way to watch a pre-season Eagles game.  It’s in my blood.  I don’t think I will be chanting the “this year” mantra though. I am wiser and a tad more skeptical these days.  I no longer have the blind faith I use to, but there is still a glimmer of hope that remains.  I wouldn’t be a true Eagles fan if I didn’t have that.

We’ll see, is all I can muster up for now.

I think I have finally arrived at a realistic balance when it comes to the Eagles.  Just like I did with the slots.  I still throw a twenty dollar bill into them each time I go to Atlantic City.  But now, all I am hoping for is my twenty back, or perhaps the chance to double it.  In which case, any winnings go directly into the college fund, seeing as my daughter will most likely have to work for a living just like the rest of us non-Hiltons.
